A year ago today, the world lost an incredible 14 year old boy from Buffalo, New York.
His name was Jamey Rodemeyer, a courageous and happy human being, he will always be remembered for the lives he touched and for the love he spread to other people.
Although Jamey was so outspoken on the subject of bullying, he, himself was a victim to the hatred he tried so desperately to put an end to. Simply because of his sexuality. Eventually, it took it’s toll. Jamey committed suicide the night of September 17th, 2011. His little sister found him the morning of September 18th, hanging from the swing set in his family’s backyard.
Jamey was an exceptionally brave person who gave his time to helping other people feel like they were worth something and to give hope to anyone searching for it. Even though he was going through very tough times at school, he made incredibly uplifting videos telling people they are special, that it does get better, to stay strong and never give up. If you have a few minutes and if you’d like to know more about Jamey, you can watch his videos here.
Jamey’s last tweet was to Lady Gaga, who was a huge inspiration to him. He lived and breathed her song “Born This Way” and it’s message. Lady Gaga performed an emotional tribute performance of her song “Hair”, an anthem dedicated to the social outcasts, for Jamey at the 2011 iHeartRadio Music Festival, which you can watch here.

"You’re not a victim, you’re a lesson to all of us." - Gaga.
I’ve learned and thought about you a lot over the past year, Jamey, and today was really no different. “Hair” was playing in my head all day at work and I even started to sing it aloud when no one was around. You, sir, are a constant reminder for me to treat everyone I meet with the upmost respect and kindness. You make me want to be a better person and really just help those who are in need of a friend or just someone to talk to. I wanna thank you for from the bottom of my heart for that. All of us Monsters miss you, bud. Paws Up & Take care :]
